Interviews

I don't make speculations and assumptions. I find the courage to answer your questions by expressing what I really want. I communicate with others as clearly as I can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and dramas (we have so so much of it with this life). With this simple interview page, you can know me better. Got questions? E-mail me at inbox@gerryyabes.com or you can visit https://ask.fm/GerryYabes. Thank you very much.

How do you handle pressure?

Stress is very important to me. With stress, I do the best possible job. The appropriate way to deal with stress is to make sure I have the correct balance between good stress and bad stress. I need good stress to stay motivated and productive. I actually work better under pressure and I've found that I enjoy working in a challenging environment. From a personal perspective, I manage stress by visiting the gym every evening. It's a great stress reducer.
If the people I am managing are contributing to my stress level, I discuss options for better handling difficult situations with them. I'm not a person who has a difficult time with stress. When I'm under pressure, I focus, and get the job done. I've done some of my best work under tight deadlines, where the atmosphere was very stressful. I'm the kind of person who stays calm under pressure, and handles stress.

How has your education prepared you for your career?

My education has focused on not only the learning the fundamentals, but also on the practical application of the information learned within those classes.

What are your strengths?

I have lot of inefficiencies such as the ability to learn quickly, determination to succeed, positive attitude, the ability to relate to people and achieve a common goal, etc.  I have very good organizational and time management skills, but my greatest strength is my ability to effectively handle multiple projects and hard deadlines.

Would you rather be liked or feared?

Both liked and feared will do.

What are your weaknesses or areas you would like to improve?

I am always working on improving my communications skills to be a more effective person. I am planning to join professional clubs like the Toastmasters which I find very helpful. Sometimes I have trouble delegating duties to others. This has sometimes backfired because I’d end up with more work than I could handle. I have since taken courses in time management and learned more effective delegation techniques and I’m happy to say that my last several team projects were a great success.

What are your views on this statement: "Test often do not reflect an individual true ability?"

In some extent, this statement is true. Nevertheless, test is still needed to measure one’s ability. The result of the test gives us first hand information about the ability of a person.

Would you rather work for money or job satisfaction?

It's fine to say money is important, but remember that nothing is more important than the satisfaction of the job. Money can't but everything. Aside from work, I am studying online about music late at night when everyone is sleeping. I also contribute articles to Wikipedia.

What are your goals for the future?

Growing with a company where I can continue to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and contribute as much of value as I can. I plan on enhancing my skills and continuing my involvement in (related) professional associations.

Have you ever had a conflict with a superior or colleague? How did you handle it?

I think that everyone at some point has had a conflict at work whether it’s with a supervisor or co-worker. I’ve found that when I’m in a difficult situation, it helps to communicate with the other person, understand their perspective and try to work out a collaborative solution whenever possible.

Are you good at working in a team?

Yes, I am. A good follower and have initiative and sensitive on the what the team needs.

Describe a time when your workload was heavy and how you handled it?

Prioritizing my responsibilities so I have a clear idea of what needs to be done when, has helped me effective handle it.
